Inspired By... David's Tea!

I have always been a tea drinker, and recently this past year I was introduced to David's Tea. If you are not familiar with it, they have so many wonderful flavours of loose tea - anything you can think of! Some of my favourites are Forever Nuts, The Glow, and most recently Pumpkin Spice! So delicious!

For this week's "Inspired By..." challenge, it was my turn to choose the inspirational photo. David's Tea posted a fabulous picture for their fall collection and I thought it would be perfect for the Autumn season!

 

I love the colour combo in this photo! I chose to use Midnight Muse, Pumpkin Pie, Early Espresso, Daffodil Delight and Smokey Slate. I also like the pattern of leaves on one of the mugs and decided to incorporate that in my card. Here's what I came up with:

 

In addition to using the colours and leaves from the photo, I also added some texture -- woodgrain and chevron embossed patterns. I then embellished the card with Daffodil Delight stitched ribbon.

Thinking of You - Clean & Simple

It has been a little while since I wrote my last post - so much on the go these days! I hope to post more regularly, however they may be short and sweet. Craft fair season is coming quickly and most of my evenings will be spent crafting!

Leaves

Thinking of You

 

Now this is a combination with lots of options! I thought about using leaves from punches/dies, but decided to turn to my favourite stamp set - French Foliage. With fall season coming up, I thought this would be perfect. Using the sketch from Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge this week, I created a clean and simple thinking of you card:

 

 

 

 

The edges of the Crumb Cake cardstock are distressed and sponged with Chocolate Chip ink. I used Orchard Harvest DSP for the flagged strips and added a third strip for the sentiment. The large circle with stamped leaves is popped up using dimensionals. I love using the colour combo of Cajun Craze, More Mustard and Old Olive for fall!

A Belated Father's Day Card

I wanted to share with you a father's day card I made for my father-in-law. (I would have also liked to share the card I made for my dad, but unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of it before I sent it to him!). Ok, so I'm a couple weeks late, but better late than never, right? :)

This card is probably one of my favourites. I'm starting to use the collage technique in a lot of my card designs. As you already know I love lots of layers and embellishments. Just add some distressing, embossing and stamped images and you have a collage card!

I used a new Stampin Up hostess set that I was able to pre-order and I absolutely love it! It's called Simply Sketched. My father-in-law loves nature, wildlife and bird watching so I thought this card would be perfect for him! I created a birds nest from hemp twine and used pearls for the eggs. The edges of the card front are distressed and sponged with Crumb Cake ink. The burlap ribbon and the wood-embossed cardstock add to the collage design. I stamped "happy father's day" and popped them up to give the card some dimension.

Inspired By... A Sea Shell

I can't wait to sit in the sunshine today! We are supposed to get sunny warm weather with temps in the 20's (Celsius) for the next week! This has been a long time coming and I hope it sticks around! Last night, I pulled out all my summer clothes that have been stored away for months and packed away my winter clothes - I love this time of year!

Onto today's challenge....

It was my pick this week. I find a lot of inspiration from many different sources including magazines, papercrafting blogs, and Pinterest, which is where I found this photo:

I love how vibrant the aqua blue is against the soft and subtle neutrals. The seashell and coral remind me of the ocean and the beach - one of my favourite places to be!

I decided to use Pool Party, Crumb Cake, and Soft Suede as the colour combo for my card. And right away I thought of the "By the Tide" stamp set. I'm so glad I have another excuse to use it -- it's becoming one of my favourites.

I love using card sketches to get me started, so this time I turned to one of my favourite card challenge blogs -- the Deconstructed Sketch. This week it is their 2nd anniversary, as well as their 100th sketch! I just had to play along!

And here's how my card turned out:

 

I absolutely love the end result! It took me a bit of time to make it as there are quite a few elements in this card. I used the emboss resist technique with the coral image. I love this technique! It really makes the image stand out. Burlap ribbon and designer paper create the layers for the card front and add some texture and patterns to the card. I stamped images of a seashell and seahorse and fussy-cut them. The seahorse is popped up to give the card some dimension. A button, bakers twine, and crochet trim ribbon embellish the card.
