Inspired By... an Outdoor Patio Set

Happy Friday!

Not only does it mean the weekend is almost here, but we have a new inspirational photo challenge to introduce!

IB #37

This week was my choice and I wanted to pick something that reminds me of spring/summer! It's been a long winter and I've had warmer weather on my mind! I chose this photo of beautiful outdoor furniture from the Pier One website - one of my favourite home decor stores. How nice would this be, to relax by the poolside in this inviting comfy chair on a warm summer day? :)
I love the colours in this photo! I decided to use Island Indigo, Pool Party, Old Olive, and Smokey Slate. I used the new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches as a guide for my card design.

I am also linking up with The Friday Mashup challenge:

  1. Create a project that's "Monochromatic".
  2. Create a project with "Flowers".
  3. or Create a "Monochromatic project with Flowers".

I used the new stamp set Petal Parade from the Sale-a-Bration catalogue, stamping flowers in monochromatic colours randomly to create the background. I then added different elements, popping them up to create some dimension. I love a card with layers!

Hop on over to Karly's Creations to see how this photo inspired her!

Thanks for stopping by!

KCRR #12 {Butterfly Prints}

Happy Friday!
Yesterday, Stampin Up made an announcement, introducing a Colour Refresh for the new 2013-2014 catalogue! This means that some colours are being discontinued while others are being brought back. Here's the complete list:
I am SO happy that Island Indigo and Pool Party are here to stay! I absolutely love these colours! And there are so many other great colours that are coming back. A couple that I'm slightly upset about is Bashful Blue and Certainly Celery... Unfortunately, these are being discontinued. However, I think I will get used to Pear Pizzazz as the new 'light green' and Soft Sky as the new 'light blue'. As much as I dislike change, I think it's a good one!

Time for...

This week's randomly chosen items are as follows (we chose three this week!):

Butterfly Prints Stamp Set
Monochromatic
Banner

This was a good challenge because it encouraged me to take out a stamp set that I haven't used yet! I love monochromatic colours! I chose Wisteria Wonder and Concord Crush/Elegant Eggplant as the colour combo for my card. I still have a DSP paper stack of old In-Colours that I need to use up and this was the perfect opportunity.

I wasn't sure at first how I would incorporate a banner in this card, but then after seeing some inspiration on pinterest, I decided to make a banner along the bottom half of the card using all different patterned paper in Concord Crush. I stamped the sentiment "happy birthday" from the Curly Cute stamp set and embossed the edges with a cross-stitched design. The butterflies are stamped in Elegant Eggplant, punched out and popped up.

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure to visit Karly's Creations to see how Karly incorporated these three elements in her card!

Monochromatic Pinks and a Triple Challenge

It's a 4-day work week! Crazy how early Easter is this year! But I'm not complaining :) Nice to have a stat holiday in March. I've had quite the productive weekend. Made lots of Mother's Day cards, gift card holders and my latest paper creation -- flower pot cards! I love these!

Definitely making more of these for the upcoming craft show! I found simple instructions on how to make these here.

For today's card I combined a couple challenges. Dynamic Duos has a monchromatic colour combo this week and Friday Mashup has a triple challenge (brayering, sketch, and butterflies).

1. Make a project using the "Sketch".
2. Or Make a project using "Butterflies & Your Brayer".
3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a project with "your Brayer using the Sketch and add some Butterflies"

I decided to mash it up and use all three along with the monochromatic pinks. This challenge encouraged me to take out my brayer (it was still in its original package!). I love sponging, but brayering is definitely an easier way to spread ink over a larger surface. I embossed Whisper White cardstock with the Elegant Bouquet embossing folder and brayered it with Crumb Cake ink. I like how it makes the embossed image stand out.

I added Regal Rose and Pretty in Pink designer paper for the background. I completed the card with butterflies and taffeta ribbon. I think it makes the perfect birthday card for a little girl!
