Fresh & Bold: A Flowery Birthday Card

I'm jumping right into my first 2017 entry for card challenges with a fresh and bold birthday card! 
Three card challenges inspired me to make this card.

I love using card sketches and Mojo Monday never disappoints! This week's sketch is a simple yet layered sketch:

The colours I used for this card were inspired by the inspiration photo challenge over at The Card Concept. This photo is clean & fresh with a pop of bright pink and orange. 

And finally, Paper Players has a Clean-and-Simple challenge this week with a twist: Flowers. I love using flowers on my cards. My latest favourite is the Botanical Builder framelits from Stampin Up. There are multiple flowers in this set, with options to be creative and layer the flowers. 

Now to finally show you the end result in combining all three of these challenges...

I added a little texture in the background, as well as a strip of striped designer paper in bright pink. A few of the flowers are popped up to give the card some dimension. Rhinestones are added in the center of each flower for some bling! 

PPA196: Pink with Sprinkles on Top

In a couple days, my niece, Jocelyn, celebrates her 3rd birthday. While I don't know her too well, I do know she is adorable and has the cutest smile! I thought a bright, colourful card from her Auntie would make her day!

I'm posting this card a tad early as I wanted to enter it in the Pal's Paper Arts challenge this week.

I chose to use Pumpkin Pie, Melon Mambo, Early Espresso and Whisper White as my colour combo and I just love how it came together!

The saying in the Create a Cupcake stamp set was just perfect for this card! I stamped the words "pink" and "sprinkles" in pink and orange ink and then fussy-cut them, pasting them back on the sentiment. I embellished it with Melon Mambo candy dots. The cupcake is popped up to give the card some dimension.

1st Birthday Wishes!

Finally home after an awesome road trip! We did a lot of driving, but got to see SO many amazing sights! God's creation is awesome! We have a couple thousand pictures to sort through and I hope to share with you sometime this coming week!

Feels great to be back into blogging again and hope to start papercrafting this weekend. I miss it!

Today is a special day. We celebrate my niece's first birthday! She is one of the cutest, happiest little girls I know. Unfortunately, I don't get to see her often, as she lives in Uganda, Africa with her family, but my thoughts are with her and I'm sending virtual birthday hugs and kisses her way!

The first picture above is of me meeting Eliana for the first time. The 2nd picture is of Eliana wearing the dress I bought for her birthday (it arrived a month early!). I think it looks adorable on her! She is such a blessing to our family!

Along with the dress, I also made this card for her:

I used an older sketch from Sweet Sunday Sketches as a guide for this layout.

 

I changed it up a bit, but it closely resembles the sketch, I think. I chose Pink Pirouette and Melon Mambo as my main colours. The "happy birthday cupcake" stamp from Patterned Occasions was the perfect image for a 1 year old birthday card! I added a foam sticker number 1 as an added embellishment. Melon Mambo organza ribbon is wrapped around the card front and I stuck with a polka dot theme and embossed the background with Perfect Polka Dots.

Craft Fair Highlights and Inspired By... Beautiful Lilies!

Yesterday was a busy day! I had a booth at the Spring Home & Health Fair here in Prince George. There were lots of great vendors promoting their home businesses. It wasn't as big a turnout as I thought it would be, but I still had a lot of interested people visit my table! Here are a few pictures of my display:

I'm glad I get to experience these craft fairs at different times of the year, but I've discovered fall/winter is the best time to take part in craft fairs. A lot of people aren't looking for cards in the Spring. Soon, I think I'm going to start focusing on Halloween and Christmas items for the fall. I've got a good start on all occasion greeting cards!
After a long day of manning a booth, Kevin and I went on a movie date to see G.I. Joe in 3D. It was actually a pretty good movie! It kept me entertained :) Afterwards, I completed the day with creating a card for our "Inspired By..." challenge. I find it's always nice to wind down at my crafting table after a long day.

Karly chose a beautiful inspirational photo of stargazing lilies from her garden (taken last year).

Aren't they gorgeous?? I love how vibrant the colours are. I was inspired to create punch art lilies and use the bright pinks in my card. Here's how it turned out:

 

 

It may not be the same type of lilies as the photo, but I just love how these calla lilies turned out! And they were super easy to make. All you need is the Build a Blossom punch, a stylus, and the Owl Builder punch. Punch out the 2nd smallest petal and curl in the edges using the stylus. Punch out the small heart from the Owl Builder punch, cut it in half and glue it to the center of the petal (this creates the spike in the middle of the flower). Then, simply glue both edges of the petals together and voila! I cut my own stalks in Certainly Celery and used the leaves from the Bird Builder punch.

 

I created the layout by following the new sketch by My Favourite Things. I really love this layout and will probably turn to it more often for inspiration.

KCRR #15 {Rosettes and Brayering}

I placed my "retired" Stampin Up order tonight! Surprisingly there weren't too many stamp sets or accessories that I just had to get before they were gone. However, I did buy the Family Reunion stamp set, the Little Additions stamp set and the Two by Two stamp. I think I will make great use out of these ones! There aren't too many baby-themed images in the catalogue, so I thought Little Additions would be an essential part of my stamp collection. Family Reunion has a lot of useful words that can be used for cards or scrapbooking. And Two by Two is such an adorable image, I couldn't resist! One accessory I just had to get was the Spider Web embossing folder. This will be a fun one to use around Halloween! I also picked up Wisteria Wonder bakers twine -- I'm kind of happy this colour is included in the new Stampin Up colour collections for 2013-2014!

Friday is not only one day closer to the weekend, it is the day we install a new KCRR challenge!

The two elements that were randomly chosen are:

Rosettes

Brayering

At first I wasn't too sure about these two items. Rosettes take some time to put together and brayering is not one of my favourite techniques. But I sketched an idea, put my creative cap on and this is what I came up with:

I absolutely love it! I first made the rosette using polka dot Melon Mambo designer paper. I covered the center with a punched out circle with the sentiment "happy Birthday wishes" stamped on it. Rhinestones are added to embellish it. I wasn't too sure what to do about the background... I know I wanted to do something 'swirly'. I deviated from my original sketch and pulled out my French Filigree background stamp and decided to try the emboss resist technique (I was inspired by Karly's recent card). I stamped it in Versamark Ink, embossed it with clear embossing powder and brayered over it with Melon Mambo ink. It turned out exactly how I pictured it!

To make the rosette, simply cut a piece of designer paper at 1" x 12". Score at every 1/4". Accordion/fan fold and attach the ends together. "Push" down flat and secure it with hot glue in the centre (I find hot glue works the best). Add an embellishment or sentiment to the front and secure to the card with glue dots. 

Isn't it fun? I love how full of colour it is! It is sure to brighten someone's birthday! :)

3" x 3" Pocket Mini Album

Last night I made a few 3" x 3" mini albums and I thought I would showcase one of them in my post today :)

The first mini album I ever made was for my hubby on Valentine's Day (click here for the original post). I found a great video tutorial via google or pinterest (can't remember which one) and it was super easy to follow! These mini albums are so fun to make and it only takes one sheet of designer paper!

Here's one of my favourites from last night:

 

I used the new Sunshine and Sprinkles DSP (silly name, beautiful paper!), the coordinating stamp set, 'Rain or Shine', and the Melon Mambo organza ribbon. The inside of the album has pockets with tags in them. Here are a few more pictures of different angles:

 

 

I just love how bright and cheery this designer paper is! I think these mini albums would make perfect little brag books!

 

The Friday Mashup challenge this week is "Singing in the Rain".

I am entering this challenge for a second time this week. While I usually 'mash it up' when I play along with Friday MashUp, this week I decided to opt out and create a project using an umbrella image.
