KCRR #10 {From My Heart to Yours}

Happy Friday!

Not too long ago I heard about a craft show coming up at the end of April at a local elementary school. I've been going back and forth trying to decide if I should have a booth at this show. I did quite a few craft fairs last fall/winter and had a lot of fun doing them! On the other hand, it took a lot of time and effort to prepare for them. So after much thought, I decided to go ahead and participate in this one!  It's April 21st, so I have exactly one month to make as many handmade papercraft items as I can! My goal is to make a couple cards/projects each night during the work week and then approx. 20 items each weekend (if possible!). We don't have much planned between now and then so that will give me lots of time!

Time for a new card challenge with KCRR!

We picked two items this week and they complement each other quite well!

'P.S. I Love You' Stamp Set
Rose Red

Ok, so if you have seen this stamp set, you will know that it is related to Valentine's day. This was a challenge in itself, to try and find a way to use it without making it a Valentine's Day card (of course, there's no rules against making a Valentine's Day card!). I try to make cards for upcoming events or all occasions. The sentiments in this stamp set can work for Anniversary or Wedding or just a simple love card to give to that special person in your life. I decided to use the sentiment "from my heart to yours." I kept it clean and simple and added just a touch of Rose Red with the neutral colours.

I used a sketch from Viva La Verve Sketch Challenge as a guide.

And here's my card:

KCRR #10

I love the layout. I deviated a bit from the actual sketch and added a bit more detail The Rose Red sentiment and sponging on the hearts adds a splash of colour. I used burlap ribbon from Close to My Heart for the strip in the background. A doily cut out is sponged with Crumb Cake ink, as well as the edges of the card front. A pearl adds a perfect embellishment to the card.

Thanks for looking! Head on over to Karly's Creations to see her take on this challenge!

Birthday Wishes for Karen!

Today I send my best birthday wishes to my sister-in-law, Karen! She is one of the sweetest, down-to-earth people I know. She and her husband, Jon, live in Alberta and have two adorable kids! We don't get to see them often, but have had the opportunity to visit them a couple times since we've lived in BC. Karen and I have a couple things in common -- we both love sweets and shopping! When I come to visit, I know she will have a candy stash somewhere in her house, and we have the best time shopping together! I hope someday we can live at least in the same province so we can get to know each other better.

Here's a picture from a few years ago (2007), spending an afternoon feeding the swans in Stratford, ON.

And a recent picture with her adorable daughter, Emma:

To let her know that I'm thinking of her on her special day, I made this card for her:

I thought it was a perfect card for her - on occasion she loves to have a good tasty cocktail or a glass of wine. I love the Stampin Up "Happy Hour" stamp set. It has a good variety of stamps and fun sentiments. Using a Stamp-a-ma-jig, I lined up the umbrella just so. I cut out the cocktail glass and popped it up with dimensionals. The designer paper comes from the Summer Smooches DSP. I bordered it with dotted scallop ribbon border in Old Olive. The sentiment reads "Here's to you on your birthday!".

Card Ingredients:

Stamps: Happy Hour
Paper: Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive, Whisper White, Summer Smooches DSP
Ink: Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive
Tools: Delicate Doilies sizzlit, Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch, Circles Nestabilities, 1-3/8" Circle punch
Accessories: Rhinestones (Michael's)

Inspired By... A Purple Flower

Hope you are enjoying the weekend so far! Friday night was a crafting night for me since my hubby is out of town for work. While I do love to go out occasionally on the weekends, I also enjoy those weekends where I get to hang out in my comfy clothes, watch a couple movies and create!

Saturday means it's time for another new challenge of:

This week, Karly chose a beautiful nature photo for inspiration:

IB #3

I like how this single purple flower is growing amongst all the stones. I thought of how I would incorporate this into a card and this is what I came up with:

I don't use purple very often in my cards, so this photo inspired me to pull out my Elegant Eggplant ink pad and cardstock. I paired it with Wisteria Wonder and Basic Gray. The flower is stamped with a two-step process--one stamp for the inside of the flower and the other to outline it. Of course, me being a perfectionist, I had to pull out my Stamp-a-ma-jig (the best 'tool' ever!) to line it up perfectly. The center of the flower is embellished with small rhinestones. I popped up the flower using dimensionals and bordered it with a doily die. To make the doily stand out against the dark gray background, I cut a large circle  in Whisper White from Circle Nestabilities and put it behind the doily. I think it adds some elegance to the card.  I realized just today that I used the same sentiment as my last card (KCRR #3)... didn't mean to do that! Just goes to show how much I love that stamp! :)

Make sure to head on over to Karly's blog to see how this photo inspired her!

From my heart to yours.

It's Monday morning and it feels like the weekend just flew by! I'm so not ready to go back to work this morning! I'm lacking motivation.. I think it's the winter blues...

I combined another two challenges for my
card today -- a card sketch from Pal's Paper Arts and a colour challenge from Dynamic Duos.

I love this card sketch and was so excited to create a card with it! The dessert option for Dynamic Duos is a Valentine Theme. Perfect! I love making Valentine cards :) At first I wasn't sure about using black in my card. When I think of Valentine's, I think of red, pink, white... not black. So, I made the black a very subtle colour in my card... this is how it turned out:

For the background, I used the transparent designer paper from the Candlelight Specialty DSP. It has a felt embossed design on it and I think it's simply elegant! I embossed the Whisper White cardstock with the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder and it seems to match perfectly! I then wrapped Real Red grosgrain ribbon around the card front. The delicate doilies add to the elegance of this card. I added hearts in white and red.  Small rhinestones embellish the card. The sentiment is stamped in Basic Black and I sponged the edges of the white hearts and doily with Basic Black ink.

What do you think of using black as a valentine colour?
