Viva La Verve: Welcome Baby

It's been a long time since I've participated in online card challenges! Today I'm linking up with Viva La Verve and their July Week 2 sketch (click here to see the post). I love layered sketches, so this one caught my eye!

I looked through a couple of colour challenges this week for inspiration and loved the colour combo from Colour Throwdown (minus the lime-y green). So, while I can't participate in this colour challenge because I didn't use all the colours, I still loved 3 out of 4 of the colours and decided to use them for my card -- Basic Grey, Smokey Slate, and Bermuda Bay. These colours could be use for any occasion. For me, 'baby' came to mind! My daughter's nursery has similar colours - light grey and teal/aqua. Here's a couple pictures of the card:

I love how it turned out!

Inspired By... Multicolour Seashells!

Today we introduce a new inspirational photo challenge!

IB #42

It was Karly's pick this week and she chose a summery photo from David's Tea. I love the multicolour seashells on this bubble teapot and teacups! I decided to use these colours, as well as an ocean/beachy theme to create a spring/summer birthday card!

I was inspired by the latest Viva la Verve sketch challenge:

This layout is somewhat similar to the card I shared with you on yesterday's post, but with just a few more layers. I started with a Sahara Sand card base and added layers of embossed cardstock, designer paper, and stamped images. "By the Tide" stamp set is one of my favourites, as I love the beach, and I thought it was a great representation of the inspirational photo.

Thanks for stopping by!

Just a note... we will be taking a break from the KCRR and "Inspired By..." challenges for the next couple weeks. :)

Card Ingredients:
Stamps: By the Tide, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Sahara Sand, Crisp Cantaloupe, Coastal Cabana, Tangerine Tango, Very Vanilla, 2013-2015 In-Colour DSP
Ink: Sahara Sand, Tangerine Tango, Coastal Cabana
Tools: Fancy Fan embossing folder, Distress tool
Accessories: Pearls (Michael's)

A Clean & Simple Bridal Shower Card

Welcome to a new KCRR challenge!

Clean & Simple
Rain or Shine Stamp Set
Delicate Doilies Sizzlit Die

As you already know, clean and simple is usually not my style, so this was a challenge for me! However, this simple sketch from Viva La Verve was the perfect start to my card design:

It's hard to say if this card falls under "clean & simple", but I really like how it turned out! The Card Concept defines "clean and simple" quite well:

  • One main image
  • Lots of open space (uncluttered)
  • Limited layers & embellishments
  • Quick & easy to recreate

The designer paper strips and the delicate doilies really add some detail to the card. To make the doily stand out against the busy background, I sponged the edges with Smokey Slate ink. The rhinestones add the perfect embellishment to the sentiment.

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure to visit Karly's Creations to see how she used these elements in her card!
