3 Cheers For You!

Hello!

I'm back again after taking a little break! I had the most enjoyable time with my sister and brother-in-law! We had a nice long weekend in Prince George, spending time at the local pool, floating down the river and going for walks. We then took a road trip and went camping throughout parts of Alberta and BC. It was fun to show them around and to enjoy God's beautiful creation! I can't get enough of the turquoise blue lakes and the spectacular rocky mountains!

I think our road trips are coming to an end for this summer season... which always makes me sad. Over the past couple years I've really grown to love traveling!

But now it's back to reality!

It was nice to step away from my crafting projects for a couple weeks, but I'm looking forward to getting back into it again! Sometimes I need that break so I can gain inspiration and motivation.

In one of my last posts, I promised to share the birthday card and gift I made for my sister's birthday. I wanted to make a fun-folded card, so I turned to my binder of ideas and came across one of my favourite folds -- the waterfall card. My sister has a bubbly fun personality so I thought I'd choose a fun colour combo and stamp set. Here's how it turned out:

Pretty cool eh? I hope to make more of these in the near future, so I will try and write up a tutorial to share with you!

 

I also decorated a greeting card box as a gift to go along with the handmade card:

 

 

 

The rose on top of the box is handmade, using cardstock and the ornament punch. I love how it turned out!

FMS #72 {Negative Space Technique}

Today's card is inspired by the new Freshly Made Sketch challenge this week. It is a very clean and simple sketch and there is so much that can be done with it. I had a few ideas, but finally narrowed it down to one. Here is the sketch:

I wanted to try a new technique and this sketch was perfect for it! The technique is using negative space. This is very simple and looks really neat in the end! I used the blossom punch to create a window on the edge of the paper. I covered the card front with polka dot Rich Razzleberry designer paper, which can only be seen through the negative space from the blossom punch. I used a bright-coloured designer paper from the Sycamore Street collection and paired it with Pool Party and Rich Razzleberry cardstock.

 

For the center of the flower, I popped up a stamped image from the Mixed Bunch stamp set (one of my favourites!) and added a rhinestone to embellish it. I love the simplicity of this card. I think the designer paper really makes the card - the colours are so vibrant and really stand out.  

 

 

I think I'm going to try this negative space techqnique in a few different ways. I am a big paper scrap saver and I often save the scraps from punching out shapes. They would work great for this technique!

KCRR #3 Chevron and Scallop

I can't believe it's already February! These past several months have flown by for me! I'm hoping it continues to speed through the winter months. Winter is not my favourite time of year...I'm a sunshine girl!:)

Friday means it's time for...

This week, we randomly chose from our list (through random.org) the following two items:

Scallop Circle

These must be used in any way, shape, or form in the making of our card/project this week.
I really liked these two items! It really got my creative juices flowing... I didn't quite know what I was going to do until a couple days ago. I saw a great sketch from Deconstructing Jen and ideas started coming to mind. I went through my designer paper and found a few with chevron patterns, but decided to go with my favourite colour, Rich Razzleberry, from the Sycamore Street collection. I always struggle what colour to put with Rich Razzleberry. Generally, I go with So Saffron or Crumb Cake, but this time I wanted to brighten it up a little...

What do you think? I really love this colour combo! Tangerine Tango coordinates so perfectly! I embossed the card front with the new Vine Street embossing folder from Sale-A-Bration. It matches with the Madison Avenue stamp set quite well. This was my first time using the stamp set and I love it! I punched out circles from different designer paper in the two colours and popped up the large scallop circle to make it stand out. The sentiment "happy birthday wishes" completes the card.

Because it's a 5" x 5" square card, I created a coordinating envelope using the same chevron patterned designer paper.

Birthday Wishes for my Mother

Today is another special day - my Mom's birthday! Here's wishing her a fantastic day! She is an amazing Mom, so sweet and caring. She has such a big heart. I miss her!

    

Because I couldn't be home to celebrate her special day, I sent her a little something to let her know I'm thinking of her.

My mom loves to sew and she is so good at it! I am so grateful for all the hems she's mended, all the holes she's patched and all the alterations she's made. Whatever sewing task it was she was able to do it!
Sooo... I found inspiration on pinterest and decided to CASE a sewing-related card!

Isn't it awesome?? It's the perfect card for my Mom :) I think she's going to love it!

The card itself is a spool of thread (in this case, I wrapped ribbon around it). I embossed the card base with a woodgrain design. The scissors are created using a template that I found on the blog mentioned above. The handles of the scissors are put together by a small silver brad and they actually 'cut' like real scissors! They are clipped on with a small 'library clip'. I then added buttons to a piece of cardstock and pinned them on with a small clothespin. Last, but not least, I added the sentiment "happy birthday" and flagged the edges to complete the card.

To add to this great card, I decorated a greeting card box and filled it with 10 greeting cards. She is often asking me to send her greeting cards to give away to family and friends, so I thought I'd get her started to have some on hand :)

 

The original box is from Close to my Heart. It's meant to be a photo box, but I think it works great for holding greeting cards!

I used a combination of Comfort Cafe DSP and Sycamore Street DSP to decorate the box. The rose is created with the ornament punch and Island Indigo cardstock. The letters are cut using my cricut machine. I added pearls on the front to embellish it.

 

I hope she is pleasantly surprised with this package of goodies in the mail! :)

Birthday Wishes and "Inspired By..." Challenge #2

Today is my Dad's birthday! I miss him so much and wish I could be at home celebrating with him! My Dad is a pretty special person in my life. He is probably the wisest man I know and such a kind, caring and encouraging person. I wish him the best birthday wishes today and many more to come!

 

 

Because I could not be home for his birthday, I sent him a handmade greeting card (of course!). My Dad LOVES to read, so I thought this card would be perfect:
 

 

I saw the idea of stacked books on Pinterest and decided to CASE it. (To see the original design visit Pink Paper Bakery). I added a cute owl to my card. I popped up one of the stacked books and made it look like the owl is sitting on it. I added glasses to the owl and a wing holding the sign "happy birthday". I stuck a gift certificate for Amazon inside the card. I think he's gonna love it!

It was my turn to choose the photo and I came across this cute Hobo bag on Etsy:

I think this bag is adorable! It reminds me of spring time with the bright colours and tree images. This bag was handmade by "Petunias" (check out their shop on Etsy!)

 

In looking at this photo, I see circles, trees, Island Indigo, Pool Party, Basic Grey, and Old Olive. I knew exactly how I was going to design my card!

 

 

I love how it turned out! It's a clean and simple card, but I added some detail. I think I've mentioned it before, but I just love the Sycamore Street DSP from Sale-a-Bration. The colours and designs are so fun! I offset the Pool Party cardstock and distressed it with Stampin Up's new distressing tool. The white cardstock is embossed with the Vine Street embossing folder (Sale-a-Bration item). The tree is created with multiple circles. I cut the tree trunk free hand and added a rhinestone to embellish the tree.

FM92 Colours & Patterns

It's the weekend! This week felt like it would never come to an end. I always find it a challenge to come back to work after the holidays. This year we were in Alberta for Christmas holidays visiting family. It was a great time! So nice to have some time off! But so hard to return to work the following day... By Friday, I finally felt like I was getting back into the routine of things again. However, my Christmas decorations are still up... On my to-do list for this weekend :)

Last night I tried my take at the Friday Mashup Challenge. I just love this blog. Each week they present not just one challenge, but two, giving the choice of either picking one challenge or mashing them up and doing both!

This week it's a colour challenge with the extra challenge of using a combination of different patterns.

 

I love this challenge! I found an older sketch from Deconstructed Sketch and decided to make a Birthday card using a combination of colours and patterns. Here's my card:



The new Sycamore Street DSP from Stampin Up's Sale-a-Bration collection has already become one of my favourites. The colours coordinate so well together and they are just so vibrant! (Sale-a-bration is coming soon, starting on January 22nd! A great opportunity to get free stamps, paper, buttons, ribbon, and more!)



  

I used a combination of patterns on this card, as well as 3 of the colours listed in the challenge (Island Indigo, Tangerine Tango, and Sahara Sand). Sahara Sand is not a colour I normally turn to, but it coordinates so well with this designer paper and I'm quite happy with the results!
