Punch Art Owl Doctor

I had a request to make a graduation card for someone whose family member just graduated and is now a doctor. I knew I wanted to incorporate punch art in this card (one of my favourite 'techniques') and came across an adorable doctor/nurse get well card using the Owl Builder punch. I loved the clever stethoscope on the doctor owl and thought I would use this idea for the graduation card. Playing along with Mojo Monday's latest sketch, everything came together so nicely:

I used the Arrows embossing folder to add some texture to the card front. A strip of chevron designer paper in Midnight Muse is embellished with pleated ribbon in Baja Breeze (one of my favourite retired Stampin Up colours). I created the stethoscope using the Small Oval punch and the circles from the Owl Builder punch. The graduation cap was created using the Curly Label punch (to create the peak at the bottom of the cap) and the top of the cap was cut free hand. 

I finished it off with a matching envelope, which was so easy to make using the Envelope Punch Board!

A Birthday Wish for an 8 Year Old!

Happy Monday! 

I'm feeling rejuvenated after a relaxing, somewhat productive weekend. It involved a little bit of grocery shopping, some baking, date night with the hubby (saw the most recent comedy called "The Other Woman" - hilarious), a walk at the dog park, a Sunday afternoon nap, and lots of papercrafting! 

Today we celebrate my niece's 8th birthday! Elena is a quiet, sweet little girl who has a beautiful smile and a tender heart. She is the oldest of 4 girls in her family and loves her sisters! 

At first it was a bit of a challenge coming up with a design for her birthday card. But, I thought, I can't go wrong with the owl builder punch! 

I love this colour combo and the patterns in the designer paper. To make it a little more interesting I added a wing to the owl (using half of a scallop circle punch) holding a balloon (created using 1" circle and the small heart in the owl builder punch). Rhinestones embellish the balloon, as well as the sentiment. 

Here's wishing Elena a fun birthday filled with laughter, love, birthday cake, and sunshine!

A Tri-Fold Owl Birthday Card

A couple weeks ago, I posted a fun owl birthday card that I made for my niece (click here to see original post). My initial inspiration came from this adorable card. I loved it so much that I made a second card, this time using the tri-fold. I stuck with the same colour combo, covering each panel with patterned designer paper and randomly placing the punch art owls throughout the card. 

So fun, right? This card is sure to make anyone smile on their birthday!

Another reason to celebrate - our neice, Zulea, has a birthday today! 

I thought it would be fun to make her a card with punch art owls. I saw this great sketch from Always Playing With Paper and used it as the base of my card design:

I love the new designer series paper in the Stampin Up Spring Occasions Mini Catalogue and decided to use it on this card. The colour combo of Real Red, Bermuda Bay and Coastal Cabana look fabulous together! 

How cute are these owls?! They were created using the Owl Builder punch from Stampin Up - probably one of my favourite punches of all time! The cute party hats were created using the Petite Pennant Builders punch (cut off part the bottom portion) and one of the Itty Bitty punches for the pom. And the owl party continues inside the card!

Punch Art Penguin Gift Tags

This will be a quick post, as I have limited time before I go off to work this morning! But, I just had to share these cute punch art characters I made last night.

I can't take credit for coming up with the design of these - I found ideas on Pinterest, but made them somewhat my own by adding googly eyes to some of them and I will be putting them on gift tags.

I came across this blog on how to make these penguins using the Owl Builder punch! The ears of the owl were cut off and used as wings, and the nose is simply the small heart in the owl punch - brilliant! It was quite tedious putting all the pieces together, but I love the end product!

Last night, one of the things I worked on was putting these penguins on gift tags. Here's how they turned out:

Owl Punch Art: Pumpkin & Pirate Halloween Costumes

After abandoning my blog for a couple weeks, I'm back with a new post!

Last weekend we kicked off the fall season with a camping trip in Jasper, Alberta. It was fun to catch up with family, see some wildlife and beautiful scenery, enjoy the great outdoors, and cozy up around the campfire (it was a bit chilly!). I feel so blessed to have the opportunities to see so many awesome sights in western Canada! God's creation is amazing!

With camping/holiday season behind us, I can now focus on preparing for the upcoming craft fairs. A lot of my free time lately has been devoted to cardmaking, but I continue to enjoy it! Papercraft ideas seem to be endless - so many techniques, punch art, and designs I want to try!

For part of the weekend I focused on Halloween cards. These are so fun to make! I hope to share them throughout the next couple weeks. Today's card features adorable punch art using the owl builder punch, which was inspired by this blog post.

 

How cute are these little guys? I love that Owl Builder punch - so fun to use and so versatile! I used the new sketch from Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge as the base design for my card.

 

 

Layers of cardstock and designer paper in Pumpkin Pie, Basic Gray and Basic Black cover the card front. The pumpkin owl was simply created using the Owl Builder punch, 1" Circle punch for the pumpkin and Scallop Circle punch for the wings. The pirate owl is created using the Owl Builder punch and Halloween designer paper. The hat is the Owl Builder punch cut in half (genius, right?). A 5th Year Anniversary!

Yesterday, Kevin and I celebrated our 5th year anniversary! (wow!) Can't believe how fast time flies. We have had so many awesome adventures over the past 5 years... I can't wait to see what the next 5 bring!

The night before our anniversary, Kevin surprised me with this absolutely gorgeous vase of flowers:

We recently saw purple wildflowers just like this one in Revelstoke, BC on the Meadows in the Sky Parkway and I absolutely loved them! They are so beautiful!

To celebrate we enjoyed a delicious dinner out at a local restaurant called North 54. They have the best ceasar salad we've ever tasted! We tried some lobster ravioli, garlic prawns, lobster tails, and topped it off with some wine and dessert (a white chocolate mousse cake, crème brule and a chocolate truffle) - yum!

It was a bit of a challenge to think of a unique design for my anniversary card this year. I  turned to a sketch from Mojo Monday this week as a guide (sketches always help!). I recently saw an idea on Splitcoast Stampers using the owl builder punch to create silhouette owls. I decided to CASE this idea and incorporate it into the Mojo Monday sketch and just love how it turned out!

 



How cute are those owls? I sponged Midnight Muse and Baja Breeze to make the night sky, and then sponged a 2nd circle with So Saffron ink to create the moon. The branch with leaves comes from the Bird Builder punch and the little hearts add a nice touch. The card front is embossed with stripes and burlap ribbon adds some texture to the card. Here's the Mojo sketch I used:

Mini Overalls

I had so much fun making the mini onesies, I had to continue with the 'mini' theme. I found some inspiration on another papercrafter's blog (click here) and just had to CASE it! Here's my version:

I punched out part of the owl from the Twitterpated DSP collection and the Nursery Nest DSP collection. Both DSP have soft and subtle colours - perfect for baby cards! I free hand cut the straps and added mini brads as buttons. Cut a small slit in the bottom for the pant legs and you have adorable mini overalls!

I created the same background as my card with the mini onesies using the Clouds embossing folder and grey striped bakers twine is used for the 'clothes line'.

Thank You Cards for Teachers

Happy Friday!

This week has flown by! Work has been so busy since I got back from vacation, but I love it! I'm looking forward to a relaxing long weekend though with beautiful HOT weather (up to 35 deg C next week!). We recently purchased a 5-person oasis island float and hope to try it out on Canada Day on a nearby lake. Should be fun!

For today's post, I wanted to share with you 6 thank you cards that I made for a friend. Her kids give gifts/cards to their teachers on the last day of school and she requested some handmade thank you cards for them to hand out - one for a librarian teacher, one for each of their teachers, one for their music teacher, one for the principal, and one for the secretary.
This was a fun challenge! I had some ideas in mind for the teachers, but struggled a bit with the card design for the principal and secretary. However, I'm really happy with the results!

KCRR #9 {Peek-a-Boo Owl}

Happy Friday!

There may be another dump of snow on the ground this morning, but I'm not going to let that bring me down! Fridays are good days. It's the end of a long week and the beginning of the weekend! And... I get to see my hubby tonight! Hopefully this time he'll stick around for a while :)

It's time for a new card challenge!

We decided to randomly choose 3 items (instead of the usual 2) from our list to make it a little more interesting:

2 Colours Only (*neutrals are also welcome)

 

I found these elements to be quite easy to work with! I decided to incorporate the Dynamic Duos colour combo in this card as well (even though the challenge is closed).

 

 

Love these two colours together! What a great reminder that spring is on the way :)

I used Crumb Cake and Chocolate Chip as the neutrals along with these two colours. When I see woodgrain, I think of nature, trees, etc. So I used the woodgrain embossed cardstock as a tree trunk. I punched a large hole in it and used the Owl Builder punch to create a cute little owl peeking out of the tree - love it! I simply added a birthday sentiment with Pool Party bakers twine to complete the card.

Spring is in the Air...

Yesterday, I spent most of the day setting up a personal budget. It's a lot of work, but I'm hoping we can keep it up! It would definitely help us to save for our big road trip in June! I got my spreadsheet template from this website: Christian PF. They have some many useful household budget tools. I found this to be the best I've found so far!

I wanted to share with you a couple of fun adorable greeting cards I made for a customer. Her friend's twins (a boy and a girl) are turning 2 this week and she asked me to make "pirate-style" birthday cards. Here's what I came up with:

 

 

Aren't they adorable?? I just love that owl punch - so many characters can be made with it! I added stamped images from the Open Sea stamp set - perfect for a pirate card! 

So for today's card, I used the new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches and the springy colour combo from Fab Friday. I am so ready for spring! Even though the first day of spring is still a month away, I know it will be here before we know it! The snow has been melting here in Prince George and the temps have been hovering around 0 degrees for quite some time. I can feel spring in the air :)

What a great sketch! And the colour combo is just perfect. These colours go so well together and are perfect for spring. This is my first time participating in the "Fab Friday" challenge. They have some great challenges and I'm looking forward to using them as inspiration in the future!

Easter is quite early this year (March 31st), so I thought I'd create a card for that special occasion. Here is my interpretation of these two challenges:

 

I created a 5"x5" square card with a matching envelope in Wild Wasabi. I like the simplicity of this sketch. It can be used in so many different ways! I added patterned paper in Perfect Plum and Baja Breeze for the background. The butterflies are the central focus of the card. I layered two butterflies and embossed the smaller one with polka dots. Rhinestones embellish it. I added a swirl in the corner and finished it off with the sentiment "Happy Easter".
